Madrid, Spain-Being a Tourist in your Own City

January 23rd, 2020

Like many people, after the holidays I had to return to reality. For most, it means returning to work, start carpooling with others to school and getting back to their routine. To me, it meant taking two planes which totaled to about 12 hours of flying to get back to Madrid; which is basically on the other side of the world to Seattle.

Once I got back to Madrid, I decided to go sightseeing during the weekends and weekdays that I was not so busy so I could rediscover my city after the Christmas lights had been taken down and the weather was close to freezing rather than the summer weather where I did most of my sightseeing.

Below you will see snippets of the places that I visited in my first few weeks back in Madrid. Some of these places are five minutes from where I live while others are 45 minutes away. But from walking a couple miles and taking the metro from walking to five minutes to the nearest corner I was able to see some of my favorite places.

This experience taught me that sometimes it is good to become a tourist in your own city. Every time, you learn and see new things, especially if you go with different people every time. When I first moved to Madrid, I went to the places that were known by tourists and if I got lost I got to see places I never expected. So I encourage every one of you to go out and explore your city whenever you can, even if you have lived there your whole life. There are adventures out there all over the world!

Sincerely,

The Eternal Traveler
